Welcome to the East Village Wordsmiths!
The theme for 2025 is Song Titles.
Our theme for July is I Fought the Law by The Clash
on Tuesday, July 1st at 8pm

The East Village Wordsmiths is the brainchild of Leigh Anne O'Connor that seeks to bring back the creative and inclusive atmosphere of coffee house culture - providing a space for poets, story tellers, and musicians to share their original works.

Here’s how the salon works for submissions:

  • Submissions are to be made by the Friday prior to the salon date

  • Submissions must be for an original piece of 5 minutes or less (about 750 words) and based on the month’s theme

  • Generally, the list is on a first come first submitted basis - provided that the piece is in line with the above criteria

  • Submissions can be sent as a PDF, Word, or Pages document - or simply in the body of an email and sent to: evwordsmiths@gmail.com

East Village Wordsmiths Submission Policy

At East Village Wordsmiths, we celebrate original voices and the power of creative expression. To honor our mission of inclusivity and respect, we ask that all submitted works align with the following guidelines:

Original Work Only: Share what is yours. No plagiarized or AI-generated content.

Respectful Expression: We welcome bold ideas, but not content that promotes hate, discrimination, or gratuitous violence.

Inclusive Spirit: Our space is for everyone. We uplift diverse voices and expect mutual respect in both content and performance.

Submissions that don’t align with these values may not be included. Thank you for helping us keep this space vibrant, safe, and inspiring.

The East Village Wordsmiths Salon takes place at Book Club Bar located at: 197 E 3rd St, New York, NY 10009
